What is Discrete Math?

The discrete math course by design shows a different view of mathematics than what is seen in the traditional mathematics course. It is an application -driven course that is based upon the study of events that occur in small or discrete chunks.

Where is Discrete Math and its concept used?

Discrete math concepts are used extensively in business, industry, government and the digital world.

What do you study in Discrete Math?

The major areas of study are counting and probability, graph theory, mathematics of social choice (voting and fair division), and coding and encryption. Some of the questions investigated in discrete math are: What does a bar code means? What is the most efficient way delivery truck can visit ten destinations? Should you buy a lottery ticket?

The course is designed for students in grades 9 –12 who have completed the pre-requisite (Algebra I and Geometry)
