Block Leave Packets
Are you planning to go on block leave at the end of the summer? Many of the teachers at VMHS have compiled packets of assignments for the first few weeks of school. If you are planning to be away when school starts up again, see Ms. B. or Ms. F. in the main office to pick up the work that you child will miss while he / she is gone. This will help ensure that your child will not have a pile of work to make up upon return to school.

School Improvement

Among the classroom activities planned to implement goal 2, i.e., information literacy, the social studies and foreign language focus group determined to use webquests. Indeed by locating, utilizing, and evaluating source materials, website evaluation, resource based learning, problem based learning, students improve their information literacy.

Therefore, Italian 2 and 3 students worked on a webquest to create a travel brochure on a region of their choice.

In the introduction they were told that they had just been hired by their local travel agency and their first job was to create interest in traveling to an Italian region. Their new boss had told them to create a travel brochure that could be presented to civic groups around the city. Their job depended on how many people signed up to visit the region they were describing.

Here are some examples of students’ work.

Original wearable art! Check out shirts done by C. R., Y. A. and M. W.!

Have a cool idea for a T-shirt? Want something to do this summer with your friends? Ms. O.'s, Art Fundamentals class designed and painted their own t-shirts. Anyone can create their own design, the steps are simple:

1.Stretch a prewashed t-shirt over stiff cardboard that is covered with newspaper, stretching it smooth.
2. Draw your design lightly with chalk
3. Mask around or over your design with regular masking tape, making sure to apply it smoothly and cover all areas that you do not want to paint with newspaper.
4. Using only paste like acrylic paint
(add NO water) brush the paint straight down in a tapping motion, rather than back and forth.
5. Let dry and peel off the tape----and Voila!!

Chess Tip Of The Week

Up until the early 20th century, it was mandatory to announce a check. Up until the late 19th century, it was mandatory to say 'check to the queen' or 'gardez' when she was attacked. At one time, if the King and other piece were simultaneously attacked by a piece, it was customary to announce the fact by saying check to both pieces.
